Van Gogh’s “Starry, Starry Night” is arguably his masterpiece, and one of the most famous paintings in the world. It was done with oil on canvas with incredible skill — but now, one Turkish artist is taking Van Gogh’s work one step further, creating something absolutely amazing in the process.
Using an ancient technique called Erbu, this artist created a new version of the Van Gogh masterpiece. Erbu involves making a canvas using water and carrageenan, a substance used to thicken the liquid. “This viscous liquid can then support the paints which I apply to the surface of the water,” he explained. Then, each layer of paint is applied by either delicately shaking droplets from a brush, or using a thin metal rod.
