Modern airplane food is notorious for being borderline inedible. The greasy, rubbery meals are tasteless and under-proportioned, and sometimes, you can’t even tell what you’re actually eating.
But it wasn’t always like this. In fact, many decades ago in-flight meals looked completely different. And when you see what people used enjoy on flights around the world, it’ll make your bag of pretzels seem even smaller!
In-flight meals weren’t always terrible.
In the early days of air travel, flights were so expensive that only the very wealthy could afford to travel by plane. As a result, in-flight service was top of the line to meet the expectations of the affluent clientele. These plentiful amenities included food.
